Archery World Cup Finals 2010

Edinburgh has been chosen as the host city for the Archery World Cup Finals in 2010

The International Archery Federation (FITA) in Switzerland announced the capital had been chosen to host the world-class event.

It will be broadcast to as many as 250 million viewers on TV and the internet, showcasing both Edinburgh and Scotland.

Edinburgh Council deputy leader, Steve Cardownie, said it was a "huge honour" for the capital.

Paul Bush, of the agency EventScotland, said: "The decision provides further evidence of Scotland's reputation as a destination for the world's biggest sporting events and we look forward to staging the show piece event of the Archery season.

"With significant international TV and internet broadcast coverage, the event will provide us with a great opportunity to showcase Edinburgh and Scotland to a massive audience, and show that Scotland really does provide the perfect stage for events."

Mr Cardownie, added: "This is another huge honour for the city and underlines the high regard in which Edinburgh is held worldwide."
