World Cross Country Championships, 30 March 2008
Following the widely-acclaimed 2003 European Cross Country Championships, Edinburgh has won the bid to stage the World Cross Country Championships in March 2008. This major world sporting event will be broadcast live on BBC television to over 50 countries worldwide from Holyrood Park.
Hundreds of world class athletes will converge on the city to battle it out over the challenging and scenic course, and the good news is, it is entirely free for spectators to come and watch. This will be one of the most prestigious events in the World Athletics calendar, and it is happening right here in Edinburgh.
This is also a fantastic opportunity for local athletes to compete on their own doorstep on the world stage, and there will be many opportunities for young athletes and recreational and club runners to compete as part of the weekend competition. There is also a 5k road race on the day, which is open to all to enter. For further details, please see the Scottish Athletics website
