Venue Description

The home of The National Archives of Scotland is General Register House, built in the 1770s, and is centrally located in the heart of Edinburgh on Princes Street. Having recently been refurbished, it is now available as an exciting new event venue. Designed by eminent architect Robert Adam, the majestic building is architecturally stunning and provides historic spaces for dinners, receptions, weddings, and meetings.

The Adam Dome is a breathtaking venue with an 80 foot ceiling stretching out to a central oculus in the ceiling allowing natural light to flood in. This Dome is inspired by the Pantheon in Rome and is Adam's tallest and largest surviving dome.

The Lord Clerk Register's Room located above the main entrance is a fabulous room with an ornate fireplace and three picture windows with views of Princes Street. Intimate meetings, dinners, receptions and wedding ceremonies can all take place in this impressive room.

The National Archives of Scotland's search service is one of the largest online sources of original genealogical information. With almost 50 million births, deaths and marriage records to access, why not include some time during the drinks reception for guests to search the register and make a start on compiling their family tree.
