Venue Description

The Roxy Art House is a 8,100 square foot complex housed in a beautiful former church building located in Roxburgh Place, well within Edinburgh city centre. It was recently acquired by the Edinburgh University Settlement who are developing it into a fully functioning Arts Centre. The venue is suitable for a wide range of activities, from live entertainment to exhibitions and conferences. There are 2 main spaces for use at the Roxy Art House, the Main Hall (ideal for conferences, talks or live music) with a site specific PA system and in-house lighting, and the Theatre, with raked seating capable of holding 150, inhouse PA system and lighting. This is perfect for theatrical performances, dance, lectures, book launches and film screenings. Downstairs we have the Bowery, a cosy and quirky bar with a wide range of beers and cocktails on offer as well as live music most nights of the week. Alongside us we have the Embassy Gallery, with a variety of local visual arts talent on show throughout the year. All these spaces are accessible to the public and increase the feeling of participating in the arts.

We aim to fully upgrade the Roxy Art House over the coming years, with increased accessibility and improved facilities.

Area/Location Description

Roxburgh Place is in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, 10 minutes walk from Waverley Train Station and with a large number of local bus routes passing nearby.

Disabled Access Information

The Main Hall has disabled access, disabled toilets and guide dogs are welcome.  We regret that we have no disabled access to the rest of the building but are working on increasing accessibility in the near future.

Scenery

There is good access to the main hall, with backstage double doors leading to beside the main state.  Access is from onstreet parking suitable for a car or transit van.  Access to the Theatre is via a wide staircase.  Access is from onstreet parking suitable for a car or transit van.
