Event Details
Reflection, an innovative contemporary visual art and craft exhibition, features the work of 22 artists and makers who have been supported by the Visual Arts Awards and Craft Maker Awards run by the City of Edinburgh Council in partnership with Creative Scotland since 2000. As well as considering some of the work and individuals supported throughout the first decade of the schemes, the exhibition also gives participating artists and makers the opportunity to reflect on their own development and creative practice.
Selected through an open call for entries, the exhibition includes a varied and dynamic group of artists and makers, ranging from emerging artists to more established professionals. Displayed over the third and fourth floors of the City Art Centre, the resulting exhibition brings together a diverse range of artforms, including ceramics, printmaking, textiles, photography, jewellery, painting, glassmaking and new media.
Artists and makers in the exhibition include Gemma Coyle, Michael Craik, Caroline Douglas, Rachel Elliott, Paul Furneaux, Catriona Grant, Paul Gray, Clare Hillerby, Beverley Hood, Fiona R Hutchison, Jane Hyslop, Alan Kilpatrick, Keiko Mukaide, Ben Murdock, Nicola Murray, Jenny Pope, Frances Priest, Anna Ray, Jenny Smith, Kate Temple, Aeneas Wilder and Rebecca Wilson.
An ambitious education programme accompanies the exhibition including professional development events and a range of workshops that will delight adults and families alike. As well as a modest publication produced to commemorate this celebration, many of the exhibiting pieces are for sale, offering an opportunity to invest in the city’s talent and support Edinburgh’s thriving visual art and craft sector.
