Event Details

On Saturday 19 August, the team behind internationally renowned textile magazine Selvedge will bring together 30 merchants and makers to Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh to sell their vintage fabrics, covetable haberdashery and handmade textile treasures.

Exhibitors include luxury Shetland-based knitwear venture Bukka, whose collection of hand-knitted accessories take the oldest heritage patterns and colours of Fair Isle knit and give them a modern twist; Argyll-based Heather Shields, whose contemporary home ware and accessories are made using traditional and computerised looms; and Catherine Aitkin who creates her contemporary bags in her studio in Leith using a range of heritage cloths such as Harris tweed, Fife linens and waxed cottons from Dundee.

As well as shopping from a range of handmade textiles, visitors to the fair will get the chance to make their own fabric flowers in a series of workshops inspired by Natalie of Alabama Chanin, the US-based ethical textile and slow fashion movement. They can also find out about the history of Dovecot Studios – built in the late 19th century in response to the cholera outbreak – with a free guided tour before enjoying a historical walk in Edinburgh town centre using a map created by the Selvedge team.
