Edinburgh's first full-contact, all female ROLLER DERBY team are proud to present 'JAILHOUSE BLOCK'! They will be roller-skating against the LEEDS ROLLER DOLLS in a fast, furious Roller Derby game. Think Elvis, think rock n roll, think rugby-style tactics on roller skates!

These two well-established leagues last played each other in November 2008, when Auld Reekie were victorious. Over a year later, Leeds are keen to settle the score! These two teams are experienced and this promises to be a closely played match!

Sound romantic? Perfect place to take your date on St. Valentines day? Of course it does!

AFTERPARTY: As well as the main event, tickets also include entry to our 50's Hawaiian themed after-bout-party at Caberet Voltaire, Blair Street, Edinburgh. Open from 8PM onwards, we guarantee cocktails, grass skirts and our very own ELVIS... Elvis will be on hand at the Tunnel of Love to conduct Roller Derby marriage ceremonies! There will be special deals on some beers and spirits.

WHAT IS ROLLER DERBY?
Roller Derby is a full-contact sport, with two teams of skaters skating round an oval track to score points. The name of the game is to get your team's Jammer- the point scorer- past members of the opposing team, as she scores a point for each player she passes. Players can use hips, shoulders and booties to ‘block' players from the opposing team (this is where the full contact aspect comes into it!). It's fast, its tough and its great to watch!

Roller Derby started in Texas, USA in the 30s as a travelling show, with teams made up of male and female skaters. There were few rules, and a lot of injuries.

The game we play now, follows strict guidelines to ensure safety, and was resurrected in America in 2002. There are currently around 25 Derby Leagues in the UK, and many more are appearing across Europe. This is a true modern phenomenon, and a revolution in female sport.

WHO ARE AULD REEKIE ROLLER GIRLS?
I'm glad you asked! ARRG formed in April 2008 in response to the growing number of teams which started appearing in the UK.

We have gone from strength to strength and have received acclaim from high profile UK AND American leagues after we became the youngest league to play in the finals of the first European Derby Tournament, Roll Britannia. We are currently ranked 4th in Europe. We are pretty pleased about that, actually!
