Lonely spinster Maureen lives with her septuagenarian mother Mag, tending to her every need, putting up with years of insults (and doling out a few of her own). But when she meets a handsome forty year old who's back from England and soon off to the USA, Maureen sees a chance to make a new life for herself.

Mag has other ideas though, and when she interferes once too often, the scene is set for misunderstandings, betrayal, tragedy and a comedy that's as black as tar on a moonless night...
